[NEWS] EA’s LGBTQ Event

Joe Roobol

Electronic Arts hasn’t been a stranger to being vocal about gay rights and LGBTQ issues in games in the past, and it’s good to see they’re staying the course. EA is holding a special invite-only conference on March 7th in New York with the Human Rights Campaign to discuss problems in the game industry such as why homophobia in games exists, trying to come up with “authentic” gay characters and scenarios, creating and supporting safe & inclusive work environments in the industry, and spelling out the differences between exclusive and inclusive language.
Also attending the conference will be linebacker and Super Bowl champion Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens. Ayanbadejo is there to host and support a talk about legalizing same-sex marriage and making an inclusive culture for LGBTQ employees in the industry.
EA has very recently expressed opposition to the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) once again by signing an amicus brief along with over 200 other companies, advising the Supreme Court of the United States on the matter. EA was also recognized as a “Best Place to Work” by the HRC with a perfect 100% score.
